What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition in which the body’s sweat glands are overactive and produce more sweat than is necessary to keep the body cool. Therefore, sweating will occur even in the absence of warm temperatures. Often, hyperhidrosis is seen in the underarms, but it may cause excess sweating in the hands, feet, and face. Hyperhidrosis may be the result of an underlying medical condition or the use of certain medications, but it may also be a primary condition without underlying factors. Determining the cause of extreme sweating is important for selecting the appropriate course of treatment. If you are experiencing primary focal hyperhidrosis (sweating that isn’t caused by other medical conditions), Botox treatment may be right for you.
